2.1.1. Temporary Dimming

Temporary dimming feature will allow you to control the light output of a single luminaire or the luminaires within the same zone. This means, you can change the light output (to higher or lower) levels of a specific luminaire temporarily. The key word here is temporary as the changes made will only last until it elapse its dwell & low light time in absence of occupancy. After that time, that specific luminaire will go back to Auto operation mode. Hence it will restore back to the previously saved settings.

You can achieve your required light level either by using Response IR App, in which you will have a Dim +/- button (Please see the pictures below) or even you can use Response App in which you will have a +/- light output button.

2.1.1.1. Simple Steps:

Dimming functions Response IR App

In the Response IR App,

  1. you can choose to control a single luminaire by pressing on the left side buttons (Dim +/-) or else

  2. you can choose to adjust all luminaires within the same zone by pressing on the right side button (zone +/-). In the later case, the lights will react to the changes simultaneously upon transmitting the the messages between the Response sensor nodes.

Dimming function Response App

In the Response App,

  1. you can control /adjust a single luminaire by pressing on the +/- button (which will give you a sequential output) or

  2. by using sliding bar (this will allow you to choose the desired percentage light output) in the light output page or else

  3. if you want to make temporary dimming for the whole zone (lights within the same zone), please remember to toggle the 'Relay' button before you start dimming, so that all the Response sensor nodes within the same zone can receive the same message.

A use case: Imagine an office space where you normally work from 9AM to 5PM. The max light in the zone (the whole office is in zone 1) has been set at 60% max light to ensure comfortable illuminance. In cases when it is overcast or some team members need to work late in the evening, you are no longer comfortable with the light levels (you may feel to brighten the whole zone where the team is currently working on), you can choose to adjust a specific luminaire or the whole zone in that office space to dim up by to 80%. The lights in the zone will now stay at that setting until everyone leaves.

The next morning, when you are back in the office, luminaires will light up to 60% max light default value. You don’t need to change the light configuration as the system automatically remembers the configured settings and reverts to auto operation in absence of occupancy.

Commands

Response from Node

Response from luminaire(s)

1. Point the dongle at the Response Sensor Node of the light you want to dim and press Dim+/Dim - button

Dome of selected node flashes red once to acknowledge receipt of command.

The selected luminaire will immediately adapt to the changes. The light output will increase or decrease upon receiving commands against Dim + and Dim -

2. Continue to press the Dim+ or –Dim button until the desired light level is achieved

or

Alternatively you can use a specific dim percentage under dimming levels

The dome of the selected Response sensor node will flashes once upon receiving this command.

Light will increase in brightness when you keep pressing (Dim+) or decrease in brightness upon pressing (-Dim) button.

If the Response SN3 flashes red twice in response to a dim command, then you have either reached the maximum light level, or dimmed all the way down to off, or the luminaire is in Burn In mode and cannot be dimmed (Click here to see details of Burn in Mode)

3. If you want to change the light output for the whole zone (within the same zone), point the dongle towards any Response sensor node, press the Zone + / Zone - button shown on the right side of the same light output page. Any changes will be Relayed across all luminaires within the same zone.

The selected node and other neighbouring Response sensor nodes will blink once upon each press.

The lights that don’t receive those commands will not have their red domes light up. Check IR transmission if that happens.

The luminaires will adapt to the changes . Light output will be increased for Zone + and decreased for zone - commands.

4. Continue to press zone + / zone - button, if you want to achieve the desired light output for the whole zone.

The Response Sensor Nodes dome will blink red (once in every 2 seconds) upon receiving those continuous inputs.

See note from step 2

The luminaires will adapt to the changes based on the input command. The light output will change accordingly.

5. If you want to set exact percentage of light output, press on the Dimming Levels tab and can see the list of dimming level percentages. Whilst pointing the dongle at the target Node, press the percentage you require. Select another percentage option if you are not happy with the resulting light level.

Dome of selected node flashes red once to acknowledge receipt of Dimming command

The luminaires will adapt to the changes based on the input command. The light output will change accordingly.

6. To Relay the dimming percentage, point the dongle at the Response Sensor Node of the light you have just adjusted and press the Relay button

Dome of selected node flashes red once to acknowledge receipt of Relay command, and then continues to flash red for 60 seconds.

Dome of other neighbouring nodes will remain solid for 60 seconds upon Relaying these changes.

The luminaires will adapt to the changes based on the input command. The light output will change accordingly.

2. Upon selection e.g. “Configure Nodes” , Response App sends a 'Scan for Node ID' message in the background as you enter in any menu and can see the “node selection“ at the top.

Dome of selected node will turn solid red to acknowledge selection of the node.

None

3. If it is not the node you wished to select click on “Dismiss Node” or shake or pull down refresh on your phone to select another node.

The node previously selected will settle its red dome to off and newly selected node will indicate it is selected by its red dome staying solid red.

None

4. Choose the Response Sensor Node of the light you want to dim and either press Dim+ button or –Dim button or you can scroll the sliding bar towards right or left.

Note: If you want a specific desired percentage light output, always choose the sliding bar option.

The dome of the selected node will flash twice upon receiving any commands in Dim + /Dim - or even changes in sliding bar.

The luminaire will adapt to the changes and output will changes accordingly. It will increase in light output if you press Dim + button or scrolling the sliding bar towards right.

It will decrease the light output if you keep pressing the Dim - button or scrolling the sliding bar towards left.

5. Continue to press the + or – button until the desired light level is achieved or keep changing in the sliding bar until you reach the required/ comfortable level.

The dome of the selected node will flash twice upon receiving the commands.

Please note the light will eventually turn OFF if you keep pressing the Dim - button or if the sliding bar ball is positioned in the extreme left corner. If you want to turn the light back ON, press either Dim + button or scroll the sliding ball towards right.

The luminaire will adapt to the changes and output will changes accordingly. It will increase in light output if you press Dim + button or scrolling the sliding bar towards right.

It will decrease the light output if you keep pressing the Dim - button or scrolling the sliding bar towards left.

If the Response sensor node flashes 4 times in response to a specific command, then either you have reached the maximum light output of the luminaire (100%) or the luminaire is in Burn In mode and cannot be dimmed (see section 4.2 on Burn In Mode or click here).

Upon finishing the command, the selected node will go back to solid red dome state unless you go back to selection mode to dismiss or make another selection.

6. If you wish to query the light output press the “query” button.
