10.0 Troubleshooting Sensor Node Does Not Respond to the IR App & Dongle (or Query)

If you encounter certain nodes that don’t respond to the Organic Response IR app and the IR dongle, we recommend you follow the checks mentioned below to find out the next steps to resolve the issue.

10.1. Check IR Dongle

The dongle requires to be recharged monthly even when not used. The recharge frequency is dependent upon how much it is used. It is always a good idea to charge a dongle before you plan to bring it to the site.

Verify that a dongle works when you send any command to multiple sensor nodes. Any command sent is acknowledged by the red dome of the sensor node. If the command is received by the sensor node proceed to the next step and continue with the configuration and commissioning activities.

10.2. Check IR Dongle and the device compatibility

Check the device you are working on. Make sure the volume output of your device is at Max.

Please refer to this list to https://organicresponse.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOC/pages/1971912816 to make sure your device is compatible with the IR dongle. If your device is one of the mentioned devices in the list please try the dongle with another device.

10.3. Check the node behavior

Once you complete the first two checks and establish the dongle and the app work fine and read successful query responses on other similar nodes in the project check the node-red dome behavior.

Check if the sensor node blinks red to indicate that it is successfully receiving the query requests from the dongle. You will see a red dome blink as multiple query messages are received by the IR receiver of the sensor node when you perform “Query All“ from iOS app.

If the sensor node receives a query but never returns any response even when the IR transmission of the sensor node is increased to 100%, please carry out the checks as explained below;

10.3.1 Node IR Transmisson Test

  1. Relay any command from this sensor node and check the behavior of the sensor node-red dome and the other nodes in the same zone.

  2. Check if the neighbouring sensor nodes that received the command blinks for 60 seconds while this node that you were unable to query will have its red dome solid red for 60 seconds. If the adjoining nodes do not indicate that they received any relay command from this node.

  3. Then this node should be replaced and sent to ORT to investigate the hardware.
