Link Zones using Wireless Linking feature

Wireless linking option has been made available in the app for applicable firmware versions. The wireless link feature uses RF communication to pass occupancy messages which would otherwise travel over IR. In this guide we will talk about how to link two or more zones using the OR app.

Pre-requisite

The wireless linking feature is supported and reliant upon the following conditions having been met;

  1. Configurator level access in the OR app
  2. Understanding of zone linking concept e.g. "Forward" & "Respond to" messages
  3. Supported firmware versions on the sensor nodes i.e. in SN3 (3.2 or higher) in SN2 valid backpack version of 12 or higher and on sensor nodes firmware version of 175 or higher.

Instructions

In order to explain the process of linking lets assume we have 3 zones "Zone 1", "Zone 2" & "Zone 3".

  1. Go to OR app in your smart phone and log in with account you have configurator access level approved for.
  2. Once logged in use the right hand side menu accessible from top left three bars and go to "Wireless Link"
  3. Once in Wireless link menu as shown below let's go through a few scenarios for the zone linking;
    1. Zone 3 to respond to occupancy in Zone 1
      • Go to luminaires in Zone 3
        • Point dongle to a luminaire toggle "reception" slider bar
        • Click on send and verify by looking at the red dome of the node
        • Repeat the process of sending for any selected or all luminaires in the zone 3 if required. Relay is not possible for this step.
        • Now go to "Zones" menu page from right hand side top three menu bars as shown below;
        • Click respond to which would expand option to select zone and notice "zone 1" is selected by default
        • Click on "respond" while dongle is pointed to the sensor node and the red dome of the node would blink red to verify receipt of command
        • You can relay this option if intended for the whole zone.
      • Go to luminaire in Zone 1
        • Point dongle to a luminaire and toggle "transmission" slider bar as shown in the picture above
        • Click on send and verify by looking at the red dome of the node
        • Repeat the process for any or all the luminaires in zone 1
    2. The process above remains the same if you wish for a zone to forward control messages from one zone to another
      • The process explained above remain the same i.e. go to transmission page with the minute change
      • For forwarding control message in a zone you would toggle both "Transmission" & "Reception" slider bar instead of one option.
      • Similarly in zones menu the only change is to click on "forward message for" option instead to respond to.
  4. At the end save settings and relay if necessary.

It is useful to note here that,

  • "Respond to" option is used if we wish for a zone to respond to occupancy messages from another zone.
  • "Forward for" is only used to forward control messages from a zone to another without acting upon these control commands. Forward for option will not forward any occupancy related information.
  • The wireless link reception or transmission / both is enabling the method of communications to RF along with IR to reach longer distances.

If further details are required please refer to OR User guide and refer to sections such as "Zones", "Zones Stitching" and "Wireless Link". Similarly the OR app has help pages built in the app to help you understand the intent and expected outcome of any feature and thus related configurations required.
