Sensor Node Reporting Frequency

Every Sensor Node has pre-set frequency for the type of event which is reported to an IoT gateway. Similarly, these messages are published to cloud from IoT gateway and in turn, the portal has it's own time windows for data harvesting. The frequency of messages is detailed below;

  • The Sensor Node samples its motion and ambient light sensors at 1kHz.
  • Sensor motion events are reported to the gateway when they happen, and then with a maximum frequency of 1 message every three seconds.
  • Sensor status messages are reported every minute to the gateway.
  • The gateway publishes collated messages to the cloud every 5 seconds.
  • The Portal reports occupancy:
    • every 5 seconds in live mode
    • historically in bins of:
      • 5 minutes in an hour
      • Every Hour in a day
      • Every Day in a Month
      • Every Month in a Year

Presence in the Portal: The presence in the portal is a calculated based upon the tirgger events and the above reporting frequency, normalized over a period of time. The time period depends upon the time window that you have selected in the portal or specified in the API query.
